Big picture first: a lot of what you'd find in guides is now wrong. Two 2026 patches rewrote the progression math, and they change the answer to almost everything you asked.
As of the March 25, 2026 update (v2.3.5), the Blueprint Shop and Stellar Stairway were retired and blueprints are now activated directly with Starchrom — no fragment collection in between. (Soren) Exploration points, crates, settlement treasures, first-clear dungeon rewards, and tasks that used to give blueprint fragments now award Starchrom directly. (Once Human)
So the permanent value of this scenario is: Starchrom harvested, converted into blueprint unlocks/star levels that follow you forever. Everything else — your level, tech tree, base, gear, stardust stockpile — is rented.
One catch: there's a monthly Starchrom cap, visible on the Blueprint screen. Starchrom from events, Battle Pass, and Collection Level doesn't count toward it. (Once Human) Check where you stand before you grind — if you're capped, redirect effort.
Welding Machines are junk loot that disassemble into 9 Metal Scraps, 3 Adhesive, and 12 Special Parts. (Fandom) You want one because the Stardust-Powered Electric Furnace recipe needs 1 Welding Machine (alongside 100 Stardust Ore, 75 Gold Ore, 15 RaidZone Chips, a Power Cable, etc.). The Recycling Electric Furnace also needs one.
Where they spawn: Chalk Peak and Red Sands, on junk items scattered around high-level areas — worth going in only when geared, since those regions swarm with high-level enemies. (Game8) Players also report Blackfell Oilfields (inside the blue containers) and the 73 Source Extraction Zone as reliable spots for both welding machines and the furnaces themselves.
The shortcut nobody mentions: if you find a Stardust-Powered Electric Furnace already placed in the world, you can pick it up and place it in your territory — no welding machine, no crafting. Players specifically call this out as the way around the welding-machine bottleneck. Reverse-engineering one instead consumes the find but gives you the tech; and repeating reverse engineering on the same facility yields Tech points. (Once Human)
Honest ROI check: Stardust Source's primary use is calibrating weapons and armor at the Gear Workbench. (Fandom) That's real power — but Tech Levels reset at the end of a scenario, (Once Human) and the furnace doesn't come with you. With ~2 weeks of phases plus a settlement phase left, you're building an engine you'll run for maybe 5–6 weeks. It's worth it if you're going to play out settlement hard; it's not worth derailing region unlocks for.
The critical 2026 change: gear brought in from Eternaland is now automatically marked "lost gear." It can't be repaired, reverse engineered, or traded, and the All-Purpose Hand can't repair it inside a scenario either. (Once Human) That guts the old "stockpile a killer arsenal for next season" strategy. Imported gear is now a disposable starter kit that degrades to nothing.
Mostly no. Low priority. What's actually worth doing before the server closes:
Push it, because region unlocks are what gate the Starchrom-bearing content: Rift Anchors, Monoliths, Securement Silos, Mystical Crates. Level 34 heading into the end of Phase 4 is behind the curve, and being underleveled is exactly what's keeping you out of Chalk Peak and Red Sands — where your welding machines are. Catch-up leveling and main quest are the same task.
Roughly in order of Starchrom-per-hour:
The core problem is that you can only sign up for a new scenario once your server reaches its final phase, and your friends are on different clocks. Three mechanisms help:
The timing hook worth planning around: Once Human launches on PS5 and Xbox on August 25, 2026 with full crossplay. (NetEase Games) Expect a wave of fresh servers and a large influx of new players. That's a natural rally date — pick a scenario, agree on a launch window, and everyone converges on a brand-new server rather than trying to squeeze into an established one.
Current PvE: Manibus (Normal, Hard), The Way of Winter, Endless Dream, and Deviation: Survive, Capture, Preserve. Current PvP: Evolution's Call, Prismverse's Clash, Isles of the Abyss, and RaidZone. (Fandom) Isles of the Abyss is the newest — ocean and island survival with ships, underwater resources, and an 8-player Sunken Lord dungeon — but it's tagged PvP.
For permanent progression, the strongest pick is a scenario you've never played, because one-time crate pools reset per group. One community note worth knowing: Novice counts as one group, and Manibus, Prismverse's Clash, and Evolution's Call on Southern Nalcott share crate progress with each other. (Paradoxgaming) That points at Way of Winter or Endless Dream as fresh crate territory — different map, untouched Starchrom.
The April 8, 2026 patch removed the Specialization system entirely, folded it into Tech tree nodes, dropped level requirements from gear, and consolidated rifle/SMG/LMG ammo into a single medium-caliber standard, along with merging fabrics, parts, and plastics into unified types. (XP Gained) Any guide that tells you to unlock "Oil Processing Memetic Specialization" for Stardust Source is describing a system that no longer exists — that path now runs through the Tech tree and reverse engineering.
